Dear Parents,
“Teacher Deddy, do you take an apprentice?”
An innocent question from a 10-year old student which meant so much that it gave me a little shock.
We always tell our students that coding is a skill that is useless if it is not applied. So for our student to ask me for an apprenticeship, I was really touched.
This student has grasped the message so well that he is already keen to see how he can contribute back, and perhaps applying for an apprenticeship at Kodecoon was the easiest option for him.
For us, as long as it benefits the students, you rarely hear a “No”. In fact, under our Maker Technopreneurship Programme (MTP) where we introduce students to making, engineering and entrepreneurship, we teach them ways to apply their tech knowledge to a product to add value to society. Who says your child is too young to experience entrepreneurship?
As for this student, I applaud him for having such a mature mindset – for thinking beyond and not viewing coding as just another skill, but a tool for him to give back.
Fast forward today, Kodecoon has started engaging our senior students to come back and assist our team in various activities – from co-creating curriculum to organising events, giving them a taste of the working world. Hopefully one day when this student is older, he’ll get a chance to become a student helper at Kodecoon too!
We’ll be featuring some of our student helpers on our social media pages in the coming months. Follow us to stay tuned!
With love,
Teacher Deddy
