Roblox Global Goals Challenge (RGGC) 2024

What is Roblox Global Goals Challenge (RGGC)?

The Roblox Global Goals Challenge is a competition organized by Kodecoon Academy that aims to educate participants about the relevant global issues through Roblox game creation. The theme of the competition this year is based on water conservation.

From Lessons to Competition

This year, through a one week training camp, Kodecoon Academy equipped participants with essential game design skills. Participants in RGGC received guidance not only on technical aspects,  but also on understanding the importance of water conservation and sustainable practices. This ensures that their creations are both impactful and reflective of the competition’s goals.

During the competition, participants were given 2 hours to make a game based on the theme given. The participants, aged 8 to 12, were tasked to create an engaging game that could educate others on the importance of, and how to conserve water. The participants were judged on three categories: Creativity, Design and Content, allowing the participants to showcase their skills, talents and understanding in designing models, coding, time management, innovation and more.

Sponsors and Collaborators

The RGGC 2024 is proudly supported by Lenovo and Our Tampines Hub. Lenovo provides laptops and devices. Our Tampines Hub, as the official venue sponsor, provides a venue for the competition to be held in.

This year, Kodecoon and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) has also helped sponsor 15 participants from lower-income households to participate in the RGGC competition and training for free, providing them and other students with laptops and devices.

The competition, held on the 30th November, was launched by Minister Masagos Zulkifli, a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Tampines West division of Tampines GRC and Dr Charlene Chen, an advisor to the grassroots organization in Tampines GRC. Minister Masagos and Dr Charlene Chen gave inspiring speeches before the competition, encouraging the participants before hitting a going, signifying the start of the competition and cheering on the participants.

Interview with the Winners of RGGC 2024

What were the challenges that you faced and how did you overcome it?

Ferell: The biggest challenge was making my game fun while teaching about water conservation. It was hard to balance gameplay with the message. The 2-hour time limit was also tough—coding, designing, and making sure the game had the right message felt like a lot to do.To overcome this, I focused on the most important parts first, using the skills I learned in the training camp. I stayed calm, worked quickly, and managed my time well. In the end, I finished the game and was really proud of it!

What did you do to prepare for this competition?

Julia: To prepare for the competition, I joined the one-week training camp at Kodecoon Academy, where I learned how to code and design games on Roblox. This gave me the technical skills I needed to build my game. I also did some research on water conservation, using resources like ChatGPT to learn about the global water crisis and ways to save water. I discovered tips like reducing water waste, reusing water, and simple daily actions that can help conserve it.

I then planned how to integrate these tips into my game in a fun and educational way, making sure players could learn while playing. Practicing my coding and design skills helped me feel more confident and prepared when the competition day arrived.

What was the most exciting part of the competition for you?

Caleb: The most exciting part was when I finished my game! It felt so cool to see something I created actually work. I was also really excited to play other people’s games and see how they used their ideas to teach people about saving water.

How do you think your game can help others understand the importance of saving water?

Ariel: I hope my game helps people realize that saving water isn’t just something for adults to worry about—it’s something everyone can do! By playing the game, they can see how easy it is to take small steps to save water and why it’s so important for the planet.
